This is my second time participating in Beautiful People, a Blog linkup for writers hosted by Cait and Sky. Basically each month they post ten questions to ask a character from your current work-in-progress. I had a ton of fun doing it last month, and eagerly awaited (aka stalked Cait’s blog) the July instalment.
But before I get into that, I have an ANNOUNCEMENT. I finished re-writing the second draft of my still-woefully-unnamed superhero/spy/dystopian/sci-fi novel! *cue confetti and an impromptu celebratory dance party* Which means that I get to finally start seriously working on the project that has been cooking in my brain for the past year while Emily Knight’s story takes a break on the back-burner.
And since I’m forcing myself to wait ONE WHOLE WEEK before diving into the first draft of another huge writing project, I’m tiding myself over by doing Beautiful People for it this month.
Introducing Hunter, the hero and co-main character of my newest work-in-progress. (He doesn’t have a last name yet, unfortunately.)
Sarah: Good morning, Hunter. Thanks for joining me on the blog.
S: For the purposes of this interview, can we assume your ‘typical’ is before [spoiler-y plot event] happened?
H: For sure.
S: Let’s dive right in, then. What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
H: Anything with chocolate in is delicious. I especially love the double fudge ice cream at the shop that was near my house, though I’m up for trying almost any flavour.
S: You’re getting ready for a night out. Where are you going? What are you wearing? Who will you be with?
H: Probably a party at the house of someone on my football team. I’d usually wear nice jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a sweatshirt if it was cold. Who’d I be with? As many friends as possible, and hopefully some soon-to-be friends, too. I’d drag Sydney along, on the rare occasions I convinced him to leave the house. Seriously, that kid needs more social interaction in his life.
S: Look at your feet. Describe what you see there.
H: Red swede skate shoes.
S: Do you have any birthmarks or scars?
H: I have a freckle on my right arm, but that’s about it, I think.
S: What kind of music do you listen to? Does it change depending on you mood or is it always consistent?
H: Whatever I feel like at the time, so long as it’s something upbeat. Slow music bores me to tears.
S: Do you have any musical talent? Play an instrument? How’s your singing voice?
H: I played percussion in Grade 6 band class, but I dropped it as soon as I could. I was way too busy with everything else to practice, and I was about this close from flunking out.
S: What kind of book would I catch you reading?
H: I’m not much of a reader, so it’d be hard to catch me at it. If I absolutely had to read something, I’d pick a short murder mystery or thriller. Something fast-paced and without long-winded descriptions. Sydney tried to make me read The Hobbit once, and I think I got about one chapter in before I got super bored and quit.
S: How would you spend your summers (or holidays)?
H: Flipping burgers at McDonald’s to save up money for university.
S: It’s Saturday at noon. What are you doing? Give details.
H: Probably just rolled out of bed and I’m in the kitchen scrounging breakfast. Usually leftovers from whatever we had for dinner on Friday night.
S: Is there anything you want to be free of?
H: I can’t say too much, because SPOILERS! But yes, there is one big thing I’d much rather not have to deal with.
S: Yeah, sorry about that…
H: No you’re not.
S: No, I’m not. Sorry not sorry?
Hunter rolls his eyes and makes his exit.
And that is Hunter, folks! I hope you enjoyed reading about my shiny new character. 😀
